President’s Message
Every year my wife makes me watch the Academy Awards (aka, the Oscars). I complain and moan about it, but being the dutiful husband I am, I eventually acquiesce.
The funny thing is, mid-way through the event, I’m on the edge of my seat, butterflies in my stomach, biting my nails in anticipation of who will win the next award. Then my eyes well up as I hear the stories of life dreams actualized and the many people that played a formative role along the way.
By the end I’m elated and marveling. This represents so much that is great about the world – celebrating achievement, honoring hard work, creating a stage for deserving talent to flourish.
We just completed the first DAA Gala Event and Awards Dinner, and I must admit; it was a lot like my Oscars experience.
When Mike Levin first approached me about it I hemmed and hawed, unconvinced of its importance relative to all the other priorities DAA had.
But, being the dutiful President I am, I acquiesced.
And once again, sitting in the audience that night, watching Joe Megibow, Avinash Kaushik, Michele Hinojosa, Analysis Exchange and Beyond Web Analytics Podcast receive their awards, I was moved. It made me realize how critical it is for our industry to make time to celebrate achievement.
I encourage you to take a moment to congratulate the recipients of this inaugural awards program as well as the nominees.
A tradition has begun – will you be a nominee or recipient next year?
